Just One
I asked a question of my Lord: “Almighty, High and Holy God,
How many would you die for, how many or how few?”
He looked at me with eyes so clear and full of love, without a tear
And said, “My child, I died for all…And I died just for you.”
“As a shepherd with a grazing flock perceives that one has wandered off
and leaves to seek the one sheep, leaving ninety-nine…
As a woman, in the house she keeps, lets all else fall aside
And sweeps and sweeps until at last she finds her silver coin...
I would seek and I would sweep for just one.
You are that one.”
I asked a question of my Lord: “Almighty, High and Holy God,
How is it You would die for one or any, even I?”
He looked at me with eyes so clear, so full of love, so full of tears
And said, “My child, I know you as a shepherd knows his sheep:
My love is greater than the love a shepherd shows his sheep:
He bears the lost lamb on his back and he walks bravely through the pack of snarling hungry wolves, alone, no path, just rocky curves unknown, a- walking through the night so cold, to bring that lamb back to the fold.
I bore your sins upon my back, and I walked bravely through a pack of snarling wolves, up to the hill known as Golgotha, or The Skull; I bore the nails and spit and scorn as my own blood flowed from the thorns!
And I bore all your sins until I cried, gave up my spirit and I died.”
I asked a question of my Lord: “Almighty, High and Holy God,
How can I show a fraction of the love You showed for me?”
He paused a moment, then He said, “Just love Me. Feed my sheep.
And when you’ve found just one and brought it back, once you’ve finished, then go back and find another, save your sisters and your brothers, until your days are done…
But remember, I would have died… for just one.”
CODA:
Just One fulfilled the law; Just One was righteousness
Just One stretched out the bounds of how amazing love could be
When Jesus stretched out His arms wide and died upon the tree
He died for all, and He died for just one…just me.
