Miss Gill, Don't Look Now For my comrade in chalk. Happy LATE birthday.
Miss Gill, don't look now but there's a child behind you
Miss Gill, no matter where you hide you know they'll find you
They flock to you like geese...their numbers just increase
Why won't they simply cease this disturbance of the peace?
"Miss Gill, is it time to go to recess yet?"
"Miss Gill, don't know how how my homework got all wet..."
They raise their little hands...you hope they understand
Then you call on them, and they shoot you out of the water
With those seven magical words: "Miss Gill, can I use the CAN?"
(yes, EVERY teacher has experienced this...)
Full of curiosity, that's how modern kids will be
Their actions an atrocity, their manners a monstrosity
No need for animosity, don't stoop to reciprocity
Just slow down your velocity
and have yourself a cup of calming TEA...
Miss Gill, don't look now but there's a child next to you
Miss Gill, don't even look at them or they'll "boo-hoo" you
They are practiced in the art of getting what they want
They think your classroom is their own personal restaurant
---What? What's all this???---
Miss Gill, don't look now but you seem quite surrounded
Miss Gill, your expression is a mite dumbfounded
There must be some mistake...
They've made you -- a birthday cake?
Their behavior's been so horrible, their attitudes so deplorable
But they're suddenly so adorable as if they flicked a switch
...Miss Gill, I think your eye is beginning to twitch!?
Miss Gill, don't look now...
They're bringing you flowers, and handmade cards, and gifts...
And hugs, and, and --- tissues... Oh, Miss Gill, please don't cry.
You just can't stay mad, huh? Miss Gill, don't look now...
Snap out of it...Just take a deep breath, and SMILE...
