I have been improvising at the piano for years, and eventually developed a style that could be called gentle and lyrical. Technique for me has never led the way, since I got around by sheer will, not by disciplined practice.
There is a story about a pianist who was asked how she could play such beautiful music when her hands were so small. She replied, "My dear, who ever said that we play piano with our hands?"
